Artist Biography: David Brooks

Having been a writer for many years it made sense to me, somehow, to start painting.
So, in the fall of 2003, I picked up the brush. I had some informal schooling to learn
the basics, but am, for the most part, self-taught.
I tend to paint things that, to me, sum up America, Baseball, Jazz musicians, Farms,
Cows, Jet fighters, strange characters and hustlers. Visions based on religious
hallucinations. Those kinds of things. If I want my paintings to do anything besides
be interesting, it’s to have them nudge the viewer to see the familiar in a new light.
My paintings have sold at the prestigious Outsider Art Fair in New York City through
the Montreal Gallery, and Gallery Bourbon-Lally. They have hung in galleries in
Kansas City, Columbus, Ohio and Portland, Oregon. A number of paintings are in
private collections in Oregon, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Cherry Hill, NJ. My
paintings will be shown at the end of April at the Intuit Show in Chicago.
